A cane is something you lean on all day, so every material in Rise was chosen for a reason. Here's what goes into it, and why.

Aluminum shaft
The shaft is made from extruded aluminum, chosen for its strength at low weight. Its D-shaped profile keeps the cane slim while holding up to daily use. Each section is sandblasted and anodized, giving it a durable satin finish that resists scratches and wear.

Reinforced nylon core
Inside the handle, and at every connection point, is a core of glass-fiber reinforced nylon (PA66 with 30% glass fiber). This engineering-grade material is stiff, tough, and stable, so the parts that take the most load stay solid and secure.

Silicone grip
The handle core is overmolded in soft-touch silicone. It's comfortable in the hand, easy to keep clean, and forms one seamless surface with no gaps or seams to catch dirt. The curved handle places your hand directly over the shaft for natural support.

Rubber foot
The foot is made from EPDM rubber, a durable compound used for its grip and resistance to weather and wear. It's replaceable, so the cane can keep working long after the first foot wears down.

Hidden hardware
An internal elastic cord guides the sections together when you unfold Rise, and a hidden magnet holds it closed when folded. With no exposed hardware, it stays clean and compact in a bag or on a table.

Tested for confidence
Rise was independently tested to ISO 24415-1, the standard for walking-aid tip friction, and to EN 1985, the requirements for walking aids. That means the materials have been put through their paces before they reach your hand. Rise Cane is certified to carry a load up to 220lbs.

Whether you're catching a flight, taking a road trip, or exploring a new city on foot, the right walking cane can make travel easier and more enjoyable. The wrong one becomes one more thing to manage. Here's what to know about traveling with a cane, how common cane types compare, and why a folding cane like Rise is built for life on the move.

Common cane options for travel

Standard single-point canes. The classic adjustable aluminum or wooden cane is simple and sturdy, but it doesn't get any shorter. At full length it has to ride along beside you, lean against tables, or lie across your lap.

Offset canes. A bent shaft places your weight over the tip for extra support. They're great for stability but awkward to pack and store.

Quad canes. A four-point base stands on its own and offers maximum balance support, but the wide base adds bulk and weight that make travel harder.

Traditional folding canes. Multi-section folding canes collapse for storage, but many feel loose when extended, rattle when folded, or take fiddling to set up.

Why Rise is built for travel
Rise is built to come with you. It folds down to roughly 19 to 21 inches depending on size, so it tucks easily into a carry-on, tote, or backpack instead of becoming one more thing to carry.

Out and about, that folding design earns its keep. Sit down at a restaurant, slide into a car, or settle onto a train, and Rise folds away in seconds, then extends back to full length just as fast when you stand. An internal elastic cord guides the sections into place, and a hidden magnet keeps it closed when folded. No leaning it against a chair, no watching it clatter to the floor.

Unlike many folding canes, Rise doesn't compromise on support. Its extruded aluminum shaft is chosen for strength at low weight, the handle places your hand directly over the shaft, and a soft silicone grip stays comfortable on long days. Rise has been independently tested to ISO 24415-1 and EN 1985 walking-aid standards, and it comes in four sizes for a proper fit.

Flying with a cane: what to know

Security screening. TSA allows canes and walking sticks through security checkpoints once they've been inspected. Expect it to go through the X-ray or be checked by hand.

Carry-on allowance. In the US, mobility aids like canes generally don't count toward your carry-on limit, so you can bring your cane plus your usual bags.

On board. Fold your cane before you stow it in an overhead bin or under the seat so it settles flat and stays out of the aisle.

Tips for smooth travels

Keep the foot tip clean. Smooth airport and hotel floors are most slip-resistant when the tip is free of grit. Wipe it down if it picks up debris.

Replace a worn tip. The Rise foot tip is replaceable, so if it wears from heavy travel you can swap in a fresh one and keep your grip.

Plan for rest stops. Long terminals and city walks add up. Map out seating and take breaks before you need them.

Check your fit before you go. A cane at the right height makes long days easier on your wrist, shoulder, and back.

A cane that fits your trip
Because Rise is designed to look like a considered accessory rather than medical equipment, it blends into your day whether you're boarding a flight or walking into dinner. Travel light, move confidently, and bring your support with you.

Traveling with a cane

Rise Cane comes in four fixed heights. It doesn't adjust, which is part of how it folds down as small as it does. The tradeoff is that you need to pick the first time correctly.

A cane that's too tall pushes your shoulder up and makes it harder to swing forward. Too short and you'll lean toward it, which is worse, because leaning costs you the stability you bought the cane for.

Two minutes of measuring beats guessing.

The accurate way: measure your wrist

This is how a physical therapist fits a cane, and it's more reliable than going by height, because arm length varies between people who are the same height.

You'll need: your normal walking shoes, a tape measure, and someone to help if you can get one.

Put your shoes on. The ones you actually walk in. Heel height changes this by an inch or more.

Stand up as straight as you comfortably can, feet slightly apart, shoulders relaxed, arms hanging loose at your sides.

Find the crease of your wrist. It's the line where your wrist meets your palm.

Measure from the floor to that crease. Straight up, not along your leg.

That number is your cane height. Find it below.

Your wrist measurement

Your size

32" to 33.75"

S (33")

33.75" to 35"

M (34.25")

35" to 36.25"

L (35.5")

36.25" to 37.5"

XL (36.75")

The quick way: go by height

Less precise, but close for most people.

You'll need: your normal walking shoes, a tape measure, and someone to help if you can get one.

Your height

Your size

5'3" to 5'6"

S (33")

5'6" to 5'9"

M (34.25")

5'9" to 6'0"

L (35.5")

6'0" to 6'3"

XL (36.75")

If you're right on the line

Say you're exactly 5'6", or your wrist measures 35" on the nose. Either size will work. Pick based on what you're using the cane for:

Mostly for balance and confidence? Go with the taller one. A little more bend in your elbow is fine, and you'll find it easier to place.

Putting real weight through it? Go with the shorter one. You'll get better leverage pushing off.

Still unsure, email support@risecane.com with your wrist measurement and we'll tell you which one we'd send.

Checking the fit when it arrives

Shoes on, standing straight, arm hanging at your side.

The top of the grip should line up with the crease of your wrist.

Now hold it. Your elbow should have a slight bend, somewhere around 15 to 30 degrees. Not locked straight, not sharply bent.

Walk twenty or thirty steps on level ground. Both shoulders should stay level. If one rides up, the cane is too tall for you.

If any of that feels off, email us. We'll swap the size. You've got 30 days and we'd much rather send you a different one than have you walk on a cane that doesn't fit.

If you're under 5'3"

We don't have a size for you yet, and we'd rather tell you than sell you one that's too tall.

Our shortest cane is 33", which suits someone around 5'3" to 5'6". If you're shorter than that, look for an adjustable cane that goes down to your wrist measurement, or ask a physical therapist to fit you.

One more thing

If you have a condition affecting your balance, your gait, or your strength, get fitted by a physical therapist or occupational therapist if you can. They'll check things a chart can't: which side to hold it on, how to take stairs, whether a cane is even the right device for you. A chart gets you close. A person gets you right.
